Bioenergy Conference

By attending the conference, IPL were able to find out more about all the different projects that are taking shape in the Bioenergy sphere.

Attendees were clearly interested in noting how to factor in the environmental component when starting up projects. Whether it is making green energy/electricity for the grid or to get people places, bioenergy projects are definitely on the rise and more and more companies want to have a go at it. In order to carry out the R&D, better structures and support from governmental institutions are yet to be implemented but things are slowly moving forward particularly when big companies are making their position clear around incorporating bioenergy in their overall strategies.
A few interesting facts:

·        Currently all LAX flights are flying on a 30:70 blend of synthetic to refined jet fuel

·        An expected growth from 2.5% to 25% by 2050 in the use of biotreater type waste to produce electricity for the grid

·        E-buses are in high demand to reduce particulate contamination in countries such as London, France and Germany

·        Transport fleet such as Scania are modifying their offering to take advantage of Biodiesel, HVO, Ethanol – ED95, Biogas, CNG, Hybrids and Electrics.

This conference was very informative on the progress being made with new innovation development. As a lab that carries out a lot of testing for the transport industry (all types included), it was a perfect opportunity to find out first hand where things are heading and how best to move forwards to keep supporting this industry.
