IPL supports the upstream oil industry by providing services such as crude assay, trace mercury analysis and weathering and dispersant testing. We measure and test to meet the stringent industry requirements.
Oil & Gas testing services include:
Crude Assay - Crude assay is essentially the evaluation of a crude by physical and chemical testing. We can assay the crude to evaluate the boiling range distribution of the cut points or complete a comprehensive characterisation that includes full chemical testing of the various boiling range fractions produced from the distillation.
Trace Mercury Analysis - Detection of trace and ultra trace concentrations of total mercury including crude hydrocarbons, condensates, LPG and gas streams. IPL utilises two methods of quantification to determine mercury to a limit of quantification of 0.2 ppb ug/kg.
Weathering and dispersant testing - IPL is the first laboratory in NZ with the capability to perform the required weathering and dispersant testing for oil discharge management plans as regulated by Maritime NZ.
Gas Composition - C1-C9
Hydrogen Sulphide, mercaptans & Low Level Sulphur - Quantification of hydrogen sulphide in gaseous samples between 0.5 ppm v/v - 100% v/v and of hydrogen sulphide in liquid hydrocarbons to a limit of quantification of 0.005ppm w/w. Quantification of sulphur in liquid hydrocarbon to a limit of quantification of 0.5ppm w/w.
Process, Scavenger and Treatment Fluid - E.g.: Amine & glycol.
Problem Solving Analysis - We use a range of techniques to identify and quantify unknowns in liquid and solid hydrocarbon matrices, see our section on specialised contamination and purity analysis.
Water Content - Detection of water in liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons between 1ppm and 100% w/w by distillation or Karl Fischer Analysis.
Wax and Asphaltene - Characterisation of wax and heavy hydrocarbons in hydrocarbons.
Physical and Chemical properties - Boiling point / Flash Point / Cloud point / Pour point / Viscosity / Vapour Pressure / Density
