Russell has over 25 years fuels lab experience and has led IPL as a stand alone business entity since inception in 1999. Under Russell’s management and guidance, IPL has grown to be the leader in laboratory testing services to the petrochemical industry in NZ and the Pacific, operating to the highest quality and safety standards. Russell’s influence is what has made IPL a commercially and financially sustainable business.
In addition to his chemistry background Russell has experience in laboratory IT database systems.
Russell is a keen follower of sports especially football.
Brendan has been appointed to the Operations Manager role in February 2016. As the Operations Manager, Brendan has the overall responsibility of ensuring testing outputs across the laboratory.
Prior to being appointed to the Operations Manager role, Brendan has held our Distribution Manager position for six years (December 2009). Brendan has extensive experience looking after all the fuels testing and training requirements for IPL’s New Zealand and South West Pacific customers.
Brendan came to IPL from Balance Fertiliser in 2005. He is well known in New Zealand rallying circles.
Michelle is our dynamic Business Innovation Manager.
Since Michelle started with working for IPL in 2000, she has filled many roles and now leads the Business Innovation Team. She and her team are responsible for Health and Safety, Quality and HR strategy and planning.
Amongst her achievements, Michelle counts leading the team that won the Northland Business Excellence ACC Award for Health and Safety in 2010, a successful International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) audit with no compliance issues and creating and maintaining strong relationships with staff, customers and key industry people.
Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and taking part in local walking events.
Noel was appointed manager of Reliability and Integrity Team in 2012. He is responsible for the development and implementation of systems and processes that ensure the laboratory's instrumentation, utilities and facilities meet statutory and customer performance requirements and expectations. Noel also manages the quality control and method development processes.
With over 30 years of experience and training in all facets of the petroleum laboratory industry and being an IANZ certified Technical Assessor, Noel brings a wealth of knowledge to the business. He enjoys sharing and applying his knowledge to develop and mentor staff.
Noel likes to keep fit and is an enthusiastic runner.
Brad came to IPL in 2006 as a Lab Technician. He was appointed Fuels Manager in March 2012 and promoted to his current role of Distribution Manager in March 2016. Prior to this Brad worked in the dairy industry with Fonterra in a variety of positions including technician, logistic controller and manager. Brad has also had experience as a chemist/surveyor with Intertek. He enjoys working at IPL because of the people and the variety of work and opportunities.
His family have relocated to Northland from Taranaki and although he misses his home town, he loves the Northland lifestyle.
Julia was appointed to the role of Analytical Manager in 2013 after four years working at IPL . The Analytical Team are responsible for the testing on all aqueous and for testing utilising our suite of GC's, the ICP and GC-MS. Julia has a strong commitment to continuous improvement and is currently working towards a New Zealand Institute of Management Diploma in Business Management.
Julia also loves to travel.
Pamela began her journey with IPL in 2008 as a lab technician under the Distribution Team. After a stint in IPL's Water Lab, she joined the Fuels Team. Pam was appointed as Fuels Manager in May 2016. As Fuels Manager, Pam coordinates a wide range of testing for IPL's core business and ensures testing is carried out in a timely manner. Prior to IPL, Pam worked at NorthTec's Science Department.
In her spare time, Pam enjoys fishing and spending time with her family.
As Strategic Development Manager Tony has the responsibility for attracting new work, developing and integrating new capabilities into the laboratory, as well as training and mentoring staff. Tony joined IPL at its inception in 1999. Between 1999 and 2006 he managed the Analytical Department, subsequently taking over the Project Team, before becoming Strategic Development Manager.
Tony is a career chemist with over 30 years analytical experience in the oil industry. He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and has previously managed analytical laboratories for multinational oil companies in both the UK and New Zealand. He has experience in establishing testing laboratories offshore in the North Sea, at refineries in Grangemouth and Cyprus. Tony has specialist expertise in hydrogen sulphide, moisture and gas chromatography as well as ICP spectroscopy. Tony is also one of IPL's IANZ certified Technical Assessors.
After work Tony can be found playing and teaching youngsters golf.
Ivor is the IPL focal point for Biofuels Testing. He came to us in 2006 with a wealth of experience in both the pharmaceutical and petroleum industries in the UK. His experience includes the development of stability indicating HPLC methods with a stint as the chemist/cargo surveyor in the busy port of Milford Haven. When Ivor first arrived in New Zealand he was responsible for setting up and obtaining NZS/ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation for a small petroleum laboratory and for the set up and staff training of several petroleum testing facilities around the South West Pacific. He maintains his interest in training.
Away from work, Ivor can be found off-road driving.
Robyn is our newest Taranaki team member and started at our New Plymouth lab in December 2018. She has previous work experience in a petrochemical lab which will be an asset for IPL and she also has work experience in the Dairy industry where she further developed her microbiology skills.
When not at work, Robyn trains in martial art, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to be more specific, and makes the most of the stunning Taranaki summers on her motorcycle.
Pam is based at our Taranaki Laboratory located in New Plymouth. She has over 20 years of laboratory and management experience gained from working in the UK and NZ. Her experiences include having worked for various government bodies in the UK and NZ, NZ Crown Research Institute and a global Agricultural Chemical Research and Development Company in Taranaki.
When not at work Pam loves to read, spend time with her family and living in Taranaki she enjoys the beach and surfing.
Kara started working with IPL in January 2014. Beforehand, Kara has had one year’s experience in Soil Analysis on the remediation of the most contaminated site in NZ . She also cumulated one year’s experience in resin technology and 3 years in an algal biotechnology plant for which she was appointed Lab Manager. She is currently towards a diploma in Business Management.
Kara likes everything about science fiction, is a big Doctor Who fan and has been known for letting her 2 cats rule the house.
